My name is Jonathan and my wife is Kah Foon and we are delighted to be joining you at St Mary’s Windermere and Jesus Church Troutbeck. Currently, I’m finishing my MA in Theology and Ministry at Cranmer Hall, part of St John’s College in Durham University. Meanwhile Kah Foon is keeping us alive by working with Friends International, a Christian charity that supports international students in the UK.
I was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and actually grew up as an Irish Presbyterian. While at university, I became Officer Cadet in the Territorial Army and then accepted a Regular Commission in the Royal Corps of Signals, where I served for 18 years. Kah Foon is from Singapore and started her working life as a teacher, but later transitioned into full-time Christian ministry and undertook her theological training at All Nations Christian College in Ware. We met in London and discovered a shared passion in mission and international student ministry. We married, and I left the army to study Theology and World Mission at Oak Hill theological college. We then moved to Dublin to work with IFES Ireland where we stayed for five years before moving to Durham in 2014 as I began training as an Anglican ordinand.
In many ways, we are slightly surprised to find ourselves coming to rural England as most of our experience has been in large cities…God clearly has a sense of humour! But we are very much looking forward to being among you. In the meantime, let us pray for one another as we look forward to a time of fruitful fellowship together.
